{"id":53732,"date":"2025-04-19T06:30:00","date_gmt":"2025-04-19T09:30:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thelaker.ca\/?p=53732"},"modified":"2025-04-19T06:30:00","modified_gmt":"2025-04-19T09:30:00","slug":"fall-rivers-marsh-signed-by-wanderers-to-development-contract","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/?p=53732","title":{"rendered":"Fall River&#8217;s Marsh signed by Wanderers to development contract"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;115&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;111&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>FALL RIVER<\/strong>: A Fall River soccer player has been signed to a development contract by the Halifax Wanderers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ben Marsh, a midfielder, was an invitee to the Wanderers\u2019 training camp after an impressive 2024 season with local club Suburban FC and Wanderers U21.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Marsh, 16, was named the Wanderers U21\u2019s 2024 Young Player of the Year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve been really pleased with Ben\u2019s progress since he joined our Wanderers program over the last couple of seasons and this is a commitment in both directions,\u201d sporting director Matt Fegan said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cBen has shown a maturity beyond his years and a great desire to challenge himself consistently in a professional environment which will be important traits as he pushes his game forward.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>ADVERTISEMENT:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate group=&#8221;8&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;192&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fegan said that as a club the Wanderers want to progress more players from our region along our pathway and Marsh\u2019s progress is testament to the work being done through our u21 program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe challenge is there for Ben now to follow in the footsteps of other local players who earned first team minutes,\u201d said Fegan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cHe will have the club\u2019s full support in his ongoing development in a patient, deliberate manner.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A member of Nova Scotia\u2019s Canada Games program, Marsh was selected to the Wanderers U21 squad for the 2024 season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>ADVERTISEMENT:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;78&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;218&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the opening match of the 2024 International Summer Series, Marsh, then 15, scored the winning goal against Ipswich Town U21 in St. John\u2019s, Newfoundland.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re excited to have a young man like Ben in our team and watch his growth as a player,\u201d Wanderers head coach Patrice Gheisar said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cHe has a good nose for goal, can play multiple positions, and we\u2019re glad to have a local player with his potential as a member of the first team squad.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>ADVERTISEMENT:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;92&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;71&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Marsh is the latest Nova Scotian to earn a contract with his hometown club.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He follows in the footsteps of local products including Christian Oxner, Scott Firth, Kieran Baskett and Yorgos Gavas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Marsh &nbsp;grew up attending Wanderers matches and has selected the number 39 because former Wanderer Stefan Karajovanovic was his favourite player when he was younger.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/16x9-1-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-53733\" style=\"width:660px;height:auto\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">(Halifax Wanderers image)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;190&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;126&#8243;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;115&#8243;] [adrotate banner=&#8221;111&#8243;] FALL RIVER: A Fall River soccer player has been signed to a development contract by the Halifax Wanderers.
