{"id":53870,"date":"2025-04-25T22:51:55","date_gmt":"2025-04-26T01:51:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thelaker.ca\/?p=53870"},"modified":"2025-04-25T22:51:55","modified_gmt":"2025-04-26T01:51:55","slug":"energy-excitement-evident-as-lockview-high-students-prepare-to-perform-little-shop-of-horrors","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/?p=53870","title":{"rendered":"Energy, excitement evident as Lockview High students prepare to perform Little Shop of Horrors"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;235&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;148&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>FALL RIVER: <\/strong>If the energy in the room at a rehearsal Wednesday April 23 afternoon for Lockview High\u2019s production of the Little Shop of Horrors is any indication, it is a performance that shouldn\u2019t be missed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The students were practicing one of the big scenes for the production, which hits the stage April 30, May 1, and May 2.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>All performances are set to begin at 7 p.m.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tickets are $17 each and can be purchased at <a href=\"https:\/\/cur8.com\/40467\/project\/131294\">https:\/\/cur8.com\/40467\/project\/131294<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>ADVERTISEMENT:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;31&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate group=&#8221;6&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ellie Fowlow is one of the three students who spoke to The Laker News about being involved in the musical, which they have been practicing since February.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She said the musical has been fun for her and the other actors\/actresses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fowlow has performed in a musical before, so she knew the work involved.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt&#8217;s always a great group of people and a really fun time,\u201d she said. \u201cI just love theater and performing, and it&#8217;s really exciting.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/IMG_3177-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-53880\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Practicing the dance routine as part of the musical. (Healey photo)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>How is the balancing schoolwork and practices for the musical going?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cPersonally, it\u2019s not,\u201d she said with a slight chuckle and smile. \u201cBut I do try.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt&#8217;s difficult at times. It has a great plot,\u201d said Miller. \u201cI mean, it has a talking plant. No other shows do that.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt&#8217;s just cool and great songs, great music, great people, great cast.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt&#8217;s just an all-around amazing show.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is Miller\u2019s third year being part of a musical at Lockview so what keeps her coming back to being involved\u2014she\u2019s not sure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt&#8217;s the cast. It&#8217;s the dancing. It&#8217;s the directors. It&#8217;s all the people,\u201d said Miller, of Fall River. \u201cWe have our choreographer, Taylor, she&#8217;s impressive. We have singing coaches. We have Mr. Mack, our director.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cJust everyone is so positive, so caring. They care so much about us. They care so much about the show. That&#8217;s why I come back every year. And Mrs. Burtt, she\u2019s amazing as well.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Abby Jenkins has always loved musical theatre, so just being able to do it in school was always nice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI&#8217;ve made so many amazing friends, like my best friend, Elle Fowler,\u201d said Jenkins. \u201cWithout this community of artsy people in the school, I wouldn&#8217;t have met her.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI feel like we&#8217;re such a sporty school, having this small arts community, making all these friends and having this bonding time through rehearsals is just really important to me.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>ADVERTISEMENT:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;105&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;71&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/IMG_3167-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-53879\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Making sure they&#8217;re all in step. (Healey photo)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>How is Jenkins doing balancing the commitment for the musical and school?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI&#8217;m doing fairly good. My marks are up,\u201d she said. \u201cIt helps being older in Grade 11 and having a free period.
