{"id":55667,"date":"2025-05-22T16:30:00","date_gmt":"2025-05-22T19:30:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thelaker.ca\/?p=54648"},"modified":"2025-05-22T16:30:00","modified_gmt":"2025-05-22T19:30:00","slug":"swole-bears-among-entrepreneurial-businesses-recognized-by-province","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/?p=55667","title":{"rendered":"Swole Bears among entrepreneurial businesses recognized by province"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;238&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;237&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>HALIFAX:<\/strong> Students in Nova Scotia have been recognized for their outstanding entrepreneurial talent with the Minister\u2019s Entrepreneurship Award of Excellence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Each year, students in grades 6 through 12 are invited to compete to receive $1,000 to help start or grow their business.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cSupporting the skills and interests of our students, such as the ones who stepped up this year to pitch their ideas for the Minister\u2019s Entrepreneurship Award of Excellence, is key to the growth and development of our province,\u201d said Brad McGowan, MLA for Cole Harbour-Dartmouth, on behalf of Education and Early Childhood Development Minister Brendan Maguire. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI look forward to seeing what these talented students accomplish in their future ventures.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>ADVERTISEMENT:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate group=&#8221;7&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;192&#8243;]<br><br>This year, seven finalists were selected to pitch their business ideas to a panel of local entrepreneurial leaders at Saint Mary\u2019s University.<br><br>Each finalist prepared an application that included a description of the product, service or idea; a marketing plan; a budget; and information on how the $1,000 grant would be used.<br><br>The 2025 winners are:<br>&#8211; Joy Akinkunmi, Pill Smart, Charles P. Allen High School<br>&#8211; Rory Fox, Swole Bears, Lockview High School<br>&#8211; Ivy Rickard, award recipient, Pentz Elementary School<br><br>Business plans were judged on their potential to solve a problem or create economic growth in Nova Scotia.<br><br>This year\u2019s judges were:<a><br>&#8211; Isi Oye-Onwuka, Venture Manager, Creative Destruction Lab<br>&#8211; Matt Cooper, CEO, Volta<\/a><br>&#8211; Chris Boulter, Senior Executive Director, Department of Education and Early Childhood Development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>ADVERTISEMENT:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate group=&#8221;6&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;31&#8243;]<br><br><strong>Quotes:<br><\/strong>\u201cMy experience was transformative.
