{"id":55684,"date":"2025-05-25T19:00:00","date_gmt":"2025-05-25T22:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thelaker.ca\/?p=54746"},"modified":"2025-05-25T19:00:00","modified_gmt":"2025-05-25T22:00:00","slug":"francis-moore-appreciative-to-be-selected-as-lieutenant-governor-education-medal-winners","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/?p=55684","title":{"rendered":"Francis, Moore appreciative to be selected as Lieutenant Governor Education Medal winners"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;127&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;238&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>FALL RIVER:<\/strong> Two Lockview High students have been recognized for their dedication to school and community involvement with the Lieutenant Governors Education Medal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dallas Francis and Danielle Moore, both from the Beaver Bank area, were the two students that were chosen from an application process at Lockview High for the medal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The two are heavily involved in various groups and organizations in the community and at the school as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Both are honoured to have been selected to receive the medal, which was presented to them during an awards ceremony by N.S. Lieutenant Governor Mike Savage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re both so appreciative of being awarded the medal,\u201d said Francis as Moore nodded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>ADVERTISEMENT:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;71&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;148&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;31&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Three of the criteria for the medal were leadership; participation; and academics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Francis was nominated for the award because of his involvement as the Grade 11 representative on Student Council, being in the school musical, and running the international committee, and his participation in clubs. He is an ambassador for the NSIP, skill builder, and part of the charity club, and he has good academic standing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s an honour to be awarded the medal,\u201d said Francis. \u201cIt means a lot to me just to be recognized for what I\u2019ve done in the school and community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m really proud of myself.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Moore said it\u2019s a special award for her.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re fortunate to be at a school with so many competitive applicants which make sit that much more of an honour,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt definitely feels good to be recognized and that all the work I have put has made a genuine impact.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She\u2019s involved in many activities, all of which she holds a leadership category in. The activities are as the school mental health rep and co-president in two clubs, and with Lockview\u2019s Relay for Life, plus participates in various roles with the 305 RCSCC Sackville Sea Cadets, regional and national cadet advisory groups.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Moore has also played on sports teams as a Dragon in JV soccer; cross country; rugby; and softball.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m so grateful to have the opportunity to do all these, plus work, and be so involved,\u201d said Moore, who works at Peach Tree Day Care.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>ADVERTISEMENT:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;192&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate group=&#8221;6&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Being a recipient of the medal is also good for both students\u2019 resumes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Francis said he found out he was one of the recipients after the students that were finalists at the school were called into a meeting and told.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI was shocked in the moment of us finding out who the recipients for Lockview High would be,\u201d said Francis. \u201cI went into the interview just thinking I would do my best not that I would be one of the two to be selected for the school.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWhen I found out I won I was surprised by it and happy that they would consider me.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Moore said she was shocked and surprised too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis has been an award I have been aware of since Grade 9 and had friends who have been nominated and won it,\u201d she said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s some that I look up to and been huge inspirations to be and so to be nominated and selected as a recipient has made it feel so special.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She said the award shows that all her sacrifice with being involved in so much is making things better.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI really hope that I\u2019m making things better for my junior cadets, and a lasting impact on the program to better it,\u201d said Moore. \u201cThis is another thing showing that my hard work and dedication is all worth it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;188&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;105&#8243;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>[adrotate banner=&#8221;127&#8243;] [adrotate banner=&#8221;238&#8243;] FALL RIVER: Two Lockview High students have been recognized for their dedication to school and community involvement with the Lieutenant Governors Education Medal.
