{"id":57234,"date":"2025-07-27T08:02:00","date_gmt":"2025-07-27T11:02:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thelaker.ca\/?p=57234"},"modified":"2025-07-27T08:02:00","modified_gmt":"2025-07-27T11:02:00","slug":"wjcc-campers-get-shown-skills-by-team-n-s-girls-baseball-players","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/?p=57234","title":{"rendered":"WJCC campers get shown skills by Team N.S. girls baseball players"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div class=\"alignnormal\">[metaslider id=&#8221;56506&#8243;]<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:35px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"alignnormal\">[metaslider id=&#8221;56511&#8243;]<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>WINDSOR JUNCTION:<\/strong> Young campers at Windsor Junction Community Centre (WJCC) had some special guests visit them on Thursday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The guests were members of the Nova Scotia Canada Games girl\u2019s baseball team, several of them locally and who have played in the LWF Baseball Association. They came to the summer camp on a beautiful sizzling summer day to highlight what baseball is all about and even pique the interest in the sport for some.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This year\u2019s Canada Games will mark the first time girls\u2019 baseball will be part of it, and that\u2019s not lost on three of the girls who spoke to The Laker News.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI grew up going to the WJCC camps and playing ball on these fields, so it was almost super nostalgic to be playing with all these kids,\u201d said Iris Long, of Fall River.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt was super fun to have the opportunity to share my skills with them.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The 2025 Canada Games is set to be held next month in St. John\u2019s, NL.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>ADVERTISEMENT:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"alignnormal\">[metaslider id=&#8221;56526&#8243;]<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"alignnormal\">[metaslider id=&#8221;56530&#8243;]<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Olivia Warford, who also calls Fall River home, said it was fun to give the kids a chance to play ball.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt was nice to allow them to play a sport I fell in love with and have played since I was three,\u201d she said. \u201cI just want to give them the opportunity to see how good the sport is.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Addison Lee has played ball multiple times a week at WJCC growing up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt feels good to give back to these kids,\u201d said Lee, who lives in neighbouring Lower Sackville.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/IMG_1274-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-57277\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Practicing hitting the ball. (Healey photo)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p><strong>ADVERTISEMENT:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"alignnormal\">[metaslider id=&#8221;56501&#8243;]<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Now switching focus, the three said they are ready for Canada Games, which is fast approaching.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lee said the team has more than 200 hours in training and is doing quite well in league play so far.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re super pumped, and we\u2019ve been putting in a lot of work,\u201d said Long. \u201cWe can\u2019t wait to get to the Games and display our talents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve been playing in the boys league and whooping their butts,\u201d added Warford.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Team Nova Scotia will begin play on the baseball diamond at the Canada Games on Aug. 19 against New Brunswick at 10 a.m. NL time.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/IMG_1409-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-57280\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">A big catch in the outfield by this youngster.
