{"id":57507,"date":"2025-08-05T16:30:00","date_gmt":"2025-08-05T19:30:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thelaker.ca\/?p=57507"},"modified":"2025-08-05T16:30:00","modified_gmt":"2025-08-05T19:30:00","slug":"hrm-advises-residents-of-restrictions-on-woods-in-municipal-park-spaces","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/?p=57507","title":{"rendered":"HRM advises residents of restrictions on woods in municipal park spaces"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div class=\"alignnormal\">[metaslider id=&#8221;56501&#8243;]<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>HALIFAX\/FALL RIVER:<\/strong> The Halifax Regional Municipality is advising residents that, due to the <a href=\"https:\/\/novascotia.ca\/natr\/forestprotection\/wildfire\/woods-proclamation_2025-08-05.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Fire Proclamation \u2013 Travel Ban<\/a> issued by the Province of Nova Scotia on Aug. 5 restrictions will be placed on access to the woods in municipal park spaces, effective 4 p.m. Aug. 5.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p> These restrictions will remain in place until 2 p.m. on Oct. 15, 2025, unless the province\u2019s proclamation is revoked or amended by further notice.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Woods, as defined in the provincial <em>Forests Act,<\/em> include forested land, rock barren, brush land, dry marsh, bog or muskeg.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Parks that are all woods will be fully closed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Parks with non-woods areas \u2013 such as green spaces, playgrounds, sports fields and ball diamonds \u2013 will remain open for use.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At <strong>McDonald Sports Park in Waverley<\/strong>, all trails in the park are closed to all users in compliance with the province-wide ban.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>ADVERTISEMENT:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"alignnormal\">[metaslider id=&#8221;56530&#8243;]<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:36px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"alignnormal\">[metaslider id=&#8221;56179&#8243;]<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>For parks which have both woods and non-woods areas, the woods are closed and the non-wooded areas remain open. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>An example of this would be Fort Needham Memorial Park where the monument, playground and sports field remain open but the woods are\u00a0 closed.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Supervised beaches in municipal parks will remain open.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If these restrictions affect any recreation programming, impacted users will be advised.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>ADVERTISEMENT:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"alignnormal\">[metaslider id=&#8221;56526&#8243;]<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The municipality is in the process of installing signage at impacted park spaces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is expected to take several days. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Regardless of the presence of signage, residents are required to adhere to these restrictions.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>More information on the provincial notice of restricting travel and activities in the woods is available in the Province of Nova Scotia\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/news.novascotia.ca\/en\/2025\/08\/05\/travel-activities-woods-restricted-prevent-wildfires\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">news release<\/a>.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"alignnormal\">[metaslider id=&#8221;56506&#8243;]<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>HALIFAX\/FALL RIVER: The Halifax Regional Municipality is advising residents that, due to the Fire Proclamation \u2013 Travel Ban issued by the Province of Nova Scotia on Aug. 5 restrictions will be placed on access to the woods in municipal park spaces, effective 4 p.m. Aug. 5.
