WAVERLEY:<\/strong> A sendoff was held for four Cheema athletes who will be representing Nova Scotia at the Canada Summer Games in St. John\u2019s, NL.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ella Cozens; Alex MacAulay; Elle MacKenzie; and Marcy Meisner will be competing in multiple sports in canoeing at the games with teammates they\u2019ve not ever performed with before as they represent the province.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At Cheema last week, a sendoff complete with cake and encouraging cheer from the summer youth program participants the athletes were celebrated and sent off in style.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The four athletes coach at Cheema, Csom Latorovszki, was also on hand for the sendoff.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Canoe Kayak is from Aug. 11 to Aug. 14.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

MacKenzie said she is going to enjoy the moment with friends and competing with other athletes she never has.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI\u2019m really excited that I made the team and will get to represent N.S.,\u201d said the Windsor Junction product.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI think it\u2019s going to be so much fun.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She said she\u2019s heard they\u2019re super fun and not a stressful time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI\u2019m going to make the best of it,\u201d she said. \u201cYou\u2019re there to have fun and make memories.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meisner said she\u2019s excited to get racing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI\u2019m super happy that I made it,\u201d said the Waverley resident.<\/p>\n\n\n

Cozens said she feels it will be a cool experience to be at the Games.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI think it will be really nice to be with so many other athletes from across Canada,\u201d said Cozens, of Lakeview.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She said they have been training hard all year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cJust getting the crews together and going out a few times before will help us,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n

MacAulay said he is stoked to have made the team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a great team,\u201d said the Fall River resident. \u201cIt should be a really good time.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He said it\u2019s something of an accomplishment to see four more athletes from Cheema add Canada Games athlete to their resumes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cCheema has been pretty good for canoe the last few years,\u201d he said. \u201cIt\u2019s great to take on this journey with some of my great friends.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Most of the four don\u2019t have any expectations as far as results go. Except MacAulay did.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI\u2019m expecting to get some medals. Some gold. Expecting to win a lot,\u201d he said in a joking way with a chuckle from the other three.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
