ENFIELD:<\/strong> A Quebec man is dead after a serious two-vehicle collision on Highway1 02 behind the Irving Big Stop in Enfield that shutdown the roadway for close to six hours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

RCMP say that at approximately 11:14 a.m. on Aug. 24, officers from RCMP Halifax Regional Detachment, East Hants RCMP, Enfield and Elmsdale fire and EHS responded to a report of a collision involving two vehicles on Hwy. 102 north of exit 7. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nearby motorists at the Burger King and by the Big Stop also raced towards the scene to see what assistance they could provide. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some of the people were from Lower Sackville\/Fall River area and had reportedly just been at a local ball tournament.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Responding officers learned that a southbound GMC Sierra had crossed the median, becoming airborne, before it collided with the unexpecting northbound Honda CRV on the roadway.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The driver of the Honda CRV, a 51-year-old man from Quebec, was pronounced deceased at the scene. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

A passenger, also from Quebec, suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to hospital by EHS LifeFlight. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The driver of the pickup, a 38-year-old man from South Carolina, was transported to hospital by EHS with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The shutdown of the otubound lane, and then the backup in the inbound lane, saw traffic divert onto Highway 2through Enfield and Elmsdale creating further traffic jams and abckups on a regular sunny Sunday afternoon. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Police said the investigation is ongoing and is being led by Halifax Regional Detachment RCMP, with the assistance of the RCMP\u2019s Collision and Reconstruction Service (CARS).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
