HALIFAX:<\/strong> A Halifax Regional Police officer was nearly struck by a vehicle during a traffic stop this evening prompting the officer to use their firearm. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

At approximately 7 p.m., two officers were outside of their vehicle on Main Avenue in Halifax when they spotted a car driving erratically. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Officers waved down the vehicle and it came to a stop. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“As officers began to approach the vehicle, it suddenly accelerated towards one of the officers at a high rate of speed,” HRP said in a release. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“In an attempt to stop the vehicle, the officer drew their firearm and fired two shots at the side of the vehicle.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The vehicle then fled the scene. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The officer was not physically injured. It is not known at this time whether the occupants of the vehicle are injured. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Moments later, police believed they had located the vehicle in a parking lot at the corner of Joseph Howe Drive and Dutch Village Road. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Four suspects were arrested but then released after it was determined they and their vehicle were not involved in the incident. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The search remains ongoing for the vehicle and its occupants. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The vehicle is believed to be a small black Nissan Sentra with tinted rear windows, possibly a 2007-2012 model. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The vehicle will likely have damage to the passenger side from the incident. There were two occupants in the vehicle. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The driver is described as a white, or light skinned black man, with black hair and a black beard. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

There is no description of the second occupant at this time. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The scene is being turned over to the RCMP to process. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The incident has been referred to the Serious Incident Response Team. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
