{"id":58672,"date":"2025-09-20T08:15:00","date_gmt":"2025-09-20T11:15:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thelaker.ca\/?p=58672"},"modified":"2025-09-20T08:15:00","modified_gmt":"2025-09-20T11:15:00","slug":"football-players-seek-answers-on-delay-in-being-able-to-play-on-new-turf-field","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/?p=58672","title":{"rendered":"Football players seek answers on delay in being able to play on new Turf Field"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div class=\"alignnormal\">[metaslider id=&#8221;56557&#8243;]<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>FALL RIVER: <\/strong>Three senior Lockview High football players are feeling disappointed they can\u2019t play on the new Turf Field built at the school yet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The players and team have been told they can\u2019t be playing or practicing on it yet as the fieldhouse, where washroom facilities will be located, is not yet complete.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, that has left three of the players who spoke to The Laker News feeling confused as their previous field had porta potties only and that\u2019s all they need to have at the field now until the fieldhouse part is ready.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m disappointed and frustrated they told us we can\u2019t play because the washrooms building is still undergoing construction and is unsafe for the athletes and spectators,\u201d said Cameron Parks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe washrooms under construction are fenced off so it shouldn\u2019t really be an issue. All we need are a few porta potties.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For their part, HRM didn\u2019t quite answer the question on why porta potties couldn\u2019t be put there to allow the team to play games.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Brynn Budden said the project (excluding the fieldhouse) is nearing completion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe field can be booked once final inspections are completed and passed,\u201d said Budden.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>ADVERTISEMENT:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"alignnormal\">[metaslider id=&#8221;56560&#8243;]<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:34px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"alignnormal\">[metaslider id=&#8221;56179&#8243;]<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Sam Lovett said the idea that the team won\u2019t be able to play home games on the field is sad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cHalf of our team are seniors. We really want to play on our own turf- we have been waiting for this for the past year,\u201d said Lovett. \u201cNow we have to look at that beautiful field every day at school knowing they won\u2019t let us play games on it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said he would like HRM and HRCE to know that this is important to them to be able to get playing on the field.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI want them to know playing games on this field is so important for my senior season and for the other 20 seniors on the team,\u201d said Lovett.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Brett Skinner concurred with Parks and Lovett.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cNot being able to play on our new field is really frustrating,\u201d he said. \u201cWe\u2019ve been really looking forward to playing on this new turf. When we started school this year, we were excited to see the turf done and expected to be playing on it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe were told that the only thing that wasn\u2019t finished on it was the bathrooms. We\u2019ve never had bathrooms at our old field which was just grass. We had porta potties there. I<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s really confusing and frustrating to hear that that\u2019s the only thing that keeps us from being able to play on this new turf now.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Councillor Billy Gillis and Councillor Cathy Deagle Gammon have been meeting with HRM over the concerns the football team expressed and trying to find out as well why porta potties could not be located on the field temporarily to allow the team to play there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"alignnormal\">[metaslider id=&#8221;56501&#8243;]<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>FALL RIVER: Three senior Lockview High football players are feeling disappointed they can\u2019t play on the new Turf Field built at the school yet.
