WINDSOR JUNCTION:<\/strong> Fall River is fast becoming known for its female baseball stars.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That reputation was underscored during the Canada Games when broadcaster commentary highlighted the community as \u201ca female baseball hotbed,\u201d a nod that came as local athlete Georgia Hines delivered a standout pitching performance for Team Nova Scotia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That same spirit of excellence carried over to the high school level this fall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That’s where the Lockview High School Lady Dragons captured the first-ever Capital Region Division 1 female baseball banner, earning a trip to provincials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Dragons\u2019 roster is a blend of veteran leadership and young promise, led by senior Reese Adams (Grade 12), juniors Iris Long and Violet Spratt (Grade 11), and sophomore Georgia Hines (Grade 10). <\/p>\n\n\n\n

LHS also features eight Grade 9 players, showcasing the growing depth of talent in the program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In regional playdowns, Lockview opened with a dominant 12\u20132 win over their Tri-County friends, the Millwood High Knights, before defeating the Bayview Sharks 7\u20131 to book their ticket to the championship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Under the lights at the Windsor Junction Community Centre (WJCC), the Dragons faced a gritty Auburn High Eagles squad composed mainly of fastpitch softball players. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Despite Auburn\u2019s determination, Lockview powered through for an 8\u20134 victory to claim the regional crown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While the Dragons\u2019 bats made plenty of noise, their pitching and defence were equally impressive\u2014allowing just one hit over 16 innings throughout the tournament.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The coaching staff expressed gratitude for LHS Athletic Director Ms. Young and the many volunteers who kept the season running smoothly, from field maintenance to fan support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With achievements piling up and younger players stepping up, the future for female baseball in Fall River looks brighter than ever.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
