belonging"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div class=\"alignnormal\">[metaslider id=&#8221;56501&#8243;]<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>HALIFAX:<\/strong> Drawing on her own roots as a descendant of early German settlers in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia author Corinne Hoebers weaves a compelling story that intertwines Mi\u2019kmaw and settler histories in 18th-century Nova Scotia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At its heart, <em>Tethered Spirits<\/em>&nbsp;is about identity, reconciliation, and the ties sometimes painful, sometimes healing that bind us to the past.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Leah Martin, member of Millbrook First Nation, Minister of L\u2019nu Affairs for the Province of Nova Scotia, spoke about the novel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;<em>Tethered&nbsp;Spirits<\/em>&nbsp;is a deeply moving novel set in eighteenth-century Mi\u2019kma\u2019ki (Nova Scotia), tracing&nbsp;the story of Bear Cub, a young German settler who is taken in by a Mi\u2019kmaw family and gradually comes to see their land, language, and ways as his own.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAs someone who values stories of reconciliation and belonging, I found Bear Cub\u2019s inner struggle between&nbsp;two identities\u2014colonial and Indigenous\u2014both heartbreaking and profoundly resonant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe novel doesn\u2019t shy away from the brutal realities of displacement, violence, and cultural loss, but it also celebrates kinship, resilience, and the enduring wisdom of the&nbsp;land and its First Peoples.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201c<em>Tethered Spirits<\/em>&nbsp;is not just an historical account\u2014it\u2019s a spiritual journey that lingers long&nbsp;after the final page.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>ADVERTISEMENT:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"alignnormal\">[metaslider id=&#8221;56376&#8243;]<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"alignnormal\">[metaslider id=&#8221;56179&#8243;]<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Hoebers is no stranger to recognition;
