{"id":59350,"date":"2025-10-16T08:30:00","date_gmt":"2025-10-16T11:30:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thelaker.ca\/?p=59350"},"modified":"2025-10-16T08:30:00","modified_gmt":"2025-10-16T11:30:00","slug":"pei-tops-ranking-on-covid-19-vaccine-funding-n-s-in-second-alberta-quebec-retreat-says-canage-vaccine-report-card","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/?p=59350","title":{"rendered":"PEI tops ranking on COVID-19 vaccine funding; N.S. in second; Alberta, Quebec retreat says CanAge vaccine report card"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div class=\"alignnormal\">[metaslider id=&#8221;56501&#8243;]<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>TORONTO, ONT.:<\/strong> CanAge, Canada&#8217;s National Seniors&#8217; Advocacy organization, has released its expanded Vaccine Report Card, evaluating all 13 provinces and territories on their efforts to vaccinate older adults.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The report reveals a troubling divide: whilst some jurisdictions are stepping up protections, others are making decisions that leave vulnerable residents exposed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;We&#8217;re seeing a dangerous patchwork emerge across Canada where your ability to stay healthy depends on which province you call home,&#8221; said Laura Tamblyn Watts, CEO of CanAge. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Some jurisdictions are stepping up with comprehensive protection for older adults, whilst others are actually moving backwards\u2014charging fees or cutting funding for vaccines that save lives and preserve independence. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;This shouldn&#8217;t be controversial: prevention works, and it&#8217;s far less expensive than treating preventable diseases.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>ADVERTISEMENT:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"alignnormal\">[metaslider id=&#8221;56526&#8243;]<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:35px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"alignnormal\">[metaslider id=&#8221;56376&#8243;]<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Key findings from the report include:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Prince Edward Island scored top marks with an A+, setting the national standard for comprehensive adult immunization<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Nova Scotia achieved second place with an A-, dramatically improved from F in 2023-24<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, and Yukon tied for third place with B+<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Alberta introduced a $100 administrative fee for COVID-19 vaccines this season<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Quebec also plans to restrict universal access to COVID-19 vaccines starting fall 2025<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>British Columbia, Northwest Territories, and Nunavut received the lowest grades (D+ and F)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Shingles vaccine funding remains inconsistent despite overwhelming evidence of effectiveness<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The report evaluated all jurisdictions on funding, access, and public awareness for six vaccines: influenza, pneumococcal disease, shingles, and new this year, RSV, COVID-19, and Tdap.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p> This year&#8217;s expanded assessment covers three respiratory illness seasons and includes new scoring that better matches today&#8217;s immunization landscape.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;The solutions are right in front of us,&#8221; said Tamblyn Watts. &#8220;The high-performing provinces show exactly what works: fund the vaccines that evidence tells us are effective, make them accessible through multiple channels, and communicate clearly with the public.
