New song shines light on disrespectful treatment of Uzbek passenger by Wizz Air<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

WAVERLEY: <\/strong>Musician and storyteller Dave Carroll has once again taken to song to call out airline mistreatment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This time it comes with a powerful message about fairness and respect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Carroll, best known for his viral United Breaks Guitars<\/em> trilogy that took the world by storm 16 years ago, released his newest music video Oct. 21, \u201cDon\u2019t Fly Wizzness Class,\u201d in collaboration with his new friend from Uzbekistan, Sukhrob Ubaydullaev.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The song and video were inspired by Ubaydullaev\u2019s 2023 experience with Wizz Air, when he and three other unrelated Uzbeks were denied boarding their flight from Rome. This was despite holding valid tickets. No reason was given, and no compensation or refund was offered.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhat happened to Sukhrob was exceptionally disrespectful,\u201d said Carroll, of Waverley, in an interview.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI think he was targeted because he comes from a developing country, outside the EU, and Wizz Air gambled that people who fit his profile wouldn\u2019t be loud enough on their own to hold the airline accountable.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With his student visa about to expire, Ubaydullaev scrambled to buy another ticket to Turkey, where no visa was required for 90 days. He soon found himself stranded and broke, living on the streets of Istanbul for a week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Two weeks later, after a series of connecting flights and a long overland drive, he finally made it home to Uzbekistan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Carroll said Ubaydullaev\u2019s story reminded him of his own viral journey with United Breaks Guitars<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI\u2019ve been asked hundreds of times since then to create another airline video, and I\u2019ve always declined until now,\u201d Carroll said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cSukhrob\u2019s genuine motivations and his unwillingness to just let it go struck a chord with me.
\u201cI saw myself in him.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Carroll said \u201cDon\u2019t Fly Wizzness Class\u201d<\/em> isn\u2019t just a protest song, it\u2019s a call for dignity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe all have more in common than we don\u2019t,\u201d he said. \u201cEveryone deserves respect, no matter where they come from.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He\u2019s encouraging people to watch, like, and share the video on both YouTube and Facebook to help amplify their message.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cMaybe Wizz Air and other companies will be reminded that we\u2019re watching them,\u201d said Carroll. \u201cEveryone has a loud voice, especially when we raise our voices together.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
