{"id":59752,"date":"2025-10-25T04:02:55","date_gmt":"2025-10-25T07:02:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thelaker.ca\/?p=59752"},"modified":"2025-10-25T04:02:55","modified_gmt":"2025-10-25T07:02:55","slug":"she-was-just-perfect-remembering-lucy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/?p=59752","title":{"rendered":"&#8220;She was just perfect.&#8221; Remembering Lucy Cable-Munroe"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div class=\"alignnormal\">[metaslider id=&#8221;56506&#8243;]<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>FALL RIVER: <\/strong>The laughter, kindness, and light of 10-year-old Lucy Cable-Munroe still fill the hearts of those who loved her.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lucy was one of two children who tragically lost their lives in a boating accident earlier this month when the boat they were on with two others took on water and overturned on Lake Rossignol.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Her parents, Becky and Troy Cable-Munroe<strong>,<\/strong> say while they are living through unimaginable heartbreak, they wanted to share with The Laker News the kind of child Lucy was \u2014 funny, thoughtful, compassionate, and wise beyond her years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cShe was the kindest, sweetest girl you could ever meet,\u201d Becky said softly, sitting with Troy at their Fall River Village home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve had parents message us to say how much of a positive influence Lucy had on their kids \u2014 things we didn\u2019t even know about. Vanier Junior High, was described by both her parents as \u201can old soul,\u201d and was mature beyond her age yet still full of playful joy. She loved her family, her friends, and her little sister, Poppy, and brother Jack.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cShe was so funny, smart, and genuinely caring,\u201d Troy recalled.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cKids warmed up to her right away \u2014 they were drawn to her energy. She loved to help, loved to take care of others.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>A balance of sparkle and muddy crocs<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lucy\u2019s mom smiles when she remembers her daughter\u2019s personality \u2014 equal parts fashionista and frog-catcher.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cShe loved to look nice,\u201d Becky laughed, \u201cbut she\u2019d be just as quick to kick off her shoes and go barefoot into the pond to find frogs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cShe\u2019d have her little outfit on, and then five minutes later, she\u2019d be knee-deep in mud. That was Lucy.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>ADVERTISEMENT:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"alignnormal\">[metaslider id=&#8221;56179&#8243;]<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>She was known for her sense of style, her love of Jellycats, and her fascination with horses and animals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lucy loved Christmas more than any other time of year \u2014 already counting down the days and helping decorate for Halloween weeks in advance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cHer favourite time was decorating with me,\u201d Becky said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;\u201cShe had already been texting me countdowns for Christmas just a couple of weeks ago.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>A heart for others<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Even at school, Lucy\u2019s kindness shone through. Teachers and classmates alike knew her for her warmth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One parent shared that Lucy had once noticed their daughter too shy to join in at recess \u2014 and made a point to include her every day after that.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cShe stood up for what was right,\u201d Becky said. \u201cShe believed in herself. She just wanted to make people happy \u2014 and she did.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Another message the family received read:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThank you for sharing your daughter with my son. Lucy made him a better person. (Submitted photo)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p><strong>The joy of life<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lucy had a love for music, even if her dad jokingly didn\u2019t approve of her playlist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cShe loved Sabrina Carpenter and Taylor Swift, which I can manage,\u201d Troy said with a grin. \u201cBut she\u2019d throw in Eminem and Kendrick Lamar too.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She also enjoyed tennis and watching Halifax Mooseheads games with her dad and sister, cowbells in hand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cShe wasn\u2019t a big sports kid,\u201d Becky said, \u201cbut she loved going to games. It was about the fun of it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And while she liked looking her best, she was also known for being tidy and organized.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cHer room was always spotless,\u201d Becky said. \u201cShe loved following the rules \u2014 maybe even too much sometimes,\u201d she laughed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cShe\u2019d take on the parent role and bossing Poppy about tidying her room as she loved playing the mum role.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/nfXQhR9F-768x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-59734\" style=\"width:492px;height:auto\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Lucy and mom Becky. (Submitted photo)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>Becky agreed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cEverywhere we go, people show us they care. You can tell they\u2019re hurting too. It means the world to us \u2014 it really does.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Gratitude to Gaul family<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The family also shared gratitude and concern for Jon and Karla Gaul, whose daughter Adalind also died in the accident.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe care deeply about them and will ever remain grateful to Jon for how he fought to save our daughter,\u201d said Becky.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe Gaul family brought even more fun and joy to Lucy\u2019s life, including her in many of their family adventures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe are so thankful for everything they did for her,\u201d said Troy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>ADVERTISEMENT:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"alignnormal\">[metaslider id=&#8221;56557&#8243;]<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The service<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A celebration of Lucy\u2019s life will take place Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at St. John\u2019s United Church in Fall River.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The service will be open to the community, with a private gathering for family and close friends at the LWF Hall afterward.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Plans are underway to live-stream the service for those unable to attend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>\u201cShe just wanted to make people proud.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the quiet moments, Becky and Troy hold tight to Lucy\u2019s laughter, her warmth, and her love for life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cShe was perfect in every way,\u201d Becky said through tears. \u201cStrong-willed, polite, confident, and authentic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cEveryone who met her said the same thing, that she was just lovely.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Troy added, \u201cShe just wanted to make people proud.
