{"id":59876,"date":"2025-10-29T18:41:19","date_gmt":"2025-10-29T21:41:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thelaker.ca\/?p=59876"},"modified":"2025-10-29T18:41:19","modified_gmt":"2025-10-29T21:41:19","slug":"care-facility-closing-as-province-advances-disability-support-transformation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/?p=59876","title":{"rendered":"Care facility in Dartmouth closing as province advances disability support transformation"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div class=\"alignnormal\">[metaslider id=&#8221;56506&#8243;]<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>DARTMOUTH:<\/strong> A residential care facility in Dartmouth will close this year, part of the government\u2019s ongoing work to transform disability support under the Nova Scotia Human Rights Remedy.<br><br>\u201cClosing facilities like Harbour Glen \u2013 and supporting people in community \u2013 is critical to delivering on the remedy,\u201d said Barbara Adams, Minister of Opportunities and Social Development. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re grateful for the collaboration and commitment of our service partners as we work together to build a system that offers greater choice, independence and community inclusion for participants.\u201d<br><br>Nova Scotians living in residential care facilities work with intensive planning and support co-ordinators to create a support plan for community living. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Transition planning is underway with all 10 of Harbour Glen\u2019s residents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>ADVERTISEMENT:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"alignnormal\">[metaslider id=&#8221;56526&#8243;]<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:34px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"alignnormal\">[metaslider id=&#8221;56511&#8243;]<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Co-ordinators work with participants, their families, local service providers and community organizations to identify and explore disability support options that best align with each person\u2019s goals.<br><br>There are 22 residential care facilities in Nova Scotia and seven adult residential centres\/regional rehabilitation centres that are considered institutional settings. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Under the remedy, these facilities must close by the spring of 2028.<br><br><strong>Quick Facts:<\/strong><br>&#8211; Harbour Glen, located on Pleasant Street, is operated by Colonial Homes\/Precision Health Group and employs 14 people \u2013 three full-time, 10 part-time, one casual<br>&#8211; it is scheduled to close December 15<br>&#8211;
