{"id":60603,"date":"2025-11-26T23:06:29","date_gmt":"2025-11-27T03:06:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thelaker.ca\/?p=60603"},"modified":"2025-11-26T23:06:29","modified_gmt":"2025-11-27T03:06:29","slug":"kennetcook-kid-wyatt-sanford-key-east-hants","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/?p=60603","title":{"rendered":"Kennetcook Kid Wyatt Sanford receives key to Municipality of East Hants"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div class=\"alignnormal\">[metaslider id=&#8221;56509&#8243;]<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>ELMSDALE: <\/strong>Fresh off a historic bronze-medal boxing performance at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, Wyatt Sanford, widely known as The Kennetcook Kid, has received one of the Municipality of East Hants\u2019 highest civic honours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sanford, from Kennetcook, became just the fourth person ever to receive the Key to the Municipality of East Hants, joining an elite group that includes musician Richard Terfry (Buck 65), Olympic rower Tracy Cameron, and hip-hop artist Luke Boyd (Classified).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With the passing of Mount Uniacke artist Francis Moore, who handcrafted the previous three key awards, MEH sourced a new custom design for Sanford\u2019s presentation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Wyatt Sanford receives keys to Municipality of East Hants \" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/2nZxebfQCxA?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>ADVERTISEMENT:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"alignnormal\">[metaslider id=&#8221;56376&#8243;]<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Speaking moments after the ceremony, Sanford said the recognition means a great deal to him, and to the community he calls home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s an absolute honour\u2026 I\u2019ve come from a great community that supports each other, and it\u2019s quite an honour to receive it,\u201d Sanford said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He admitted the news caught him off guard when he was first told.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI was a little shocked at first. (Healey photo)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p><strong>ADVERTISEMENT:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"alignnormal\">[metaslider id=&#8221;56506&#8243;]<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Puck drop with the Penguins<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sanford also took part in a special moment over the weekend, dropping the ceremonial puck at the East Hants Senior Penguins\u2019 home game, a gesture he said he genuinely enjoyed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt was fun.
