{"id":60940,"date":"2025-12-10T10:22:30","date_gmt":"2025-12-10T14:22:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thelaker.ca\/?p=60940"},"modified":"2025-12-10T10:22:30","modified_gmt":"2025-12-10T14:22:30","slug":"n-s-announces-more-affordable-housing-units-preserved-in-annapolis-valley","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/?p=60940","title":{"rendered":"N.S. announces more affordable housing units preserved in Annapolis Valley"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div class=\"alignnormal\">[metaslider id=&#8221;56514&#8243;]<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>ANNAPOLIS VALLEY:<\/strong> Students now have more options for affordable housing in the Annapolis Valley.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Student Housing Nova Scotia has purchased four multi-unit buildings in Lawrencetown and three in Kingston with the help of $6.9 million in loans from the Province\u2019s Community Housing Acquisition Program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt is just as important to preserve affordable housing as it is to build new units,\u201d said John White, Minister of Housing. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe are grateful for our partners in the community housing sector for their support in our government\u2019s efforts to provide more affordable housing throughout our province.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>ADVERTISEMENT:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"alignnormal\">[metaslider id=&#8221;56526&#8243;]<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"alignnormal\">[metaslider id=&#8221;56376&#8243;]<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The 22 units in Lawrencetown are near Nova Scotia Community College\u2019s Centre of Geographic Sciences campus, while the 34 units in Kingston are within a short drive to the Kingstec campus in Kentville and the Annapolis Valley campus in Middleton.<br><br>The projects also received $530,000 through the Community Housing Capital Fund, managed by the Community Housing Transformation Centre.<br><br>While students will be given priority when units become available, enrollment at a post-secondary institution is not a requirement; current residents will not be displaced by students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>ADVERTISEMENT:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"alignnormal\">[metaslider id=&#8221;56501&#8243;]<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Quick Facts:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8211; repayable loans at fixed rates from the Community Housing Acquisition Program are available for up to 95 per cent of the property cost<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>&#8211; <\/strong>loans are available for up to 30 years, to a maximum of $10 million per project<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>&#8211;<\/strong> $61 million from the program has helped preserve more than 900 affordable units in Nova Scotia<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8211; Student Housing Nova Scotia is a non-profit organization that develops, provides and advocates for housing that meets the needs of post-secondary students in Nova Scotia<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8211; the Community Housing Transformation Centre is a national non-profit that strengthens and expands Canada\u2019s community housing sector through funding, capacity building and sector-wide collaboration<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"alignnormal\">[metaslider id=&#8221;56179&#8243;]<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"alignnormal\">[metaslider id=&#8221;56506&#8243;]<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>ANNAPOLIS VALLEY: Students now have more options for affordable housing in the Annapolis Valley.
