{"id":61214,"date":"2025-12-19T20:55:28","date_gmt":"2025-12-20T00:55:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thelaker.ca\/?p=61214"},"modified":"2025-12-19T20:55:28","modified_gmt":"2025-12-20T00:55:28","slug":"patient-care-to-be-transformed-at-dartmouth-general-thanks-to-5-million-gift-in-honour-of-sean-oregan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/?p=61214","title":{"rendered":"Patient care to be transformed at Dartmouth General thanks to $5 million gift in honour of Sean O&#8217;Regan"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div class=\"alignnormal\">[metaslider id=&#8221;56506&#8243;]<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>DARTMOUTH:<\/strong> The Dartmouth General Hospital Foundation is honoured to announce a transformational $5 million gift from Lisa O\u2019Regan, the largest contribution in the hospital\u2019s history. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Made in honour of her late husband, Sean O\u2019Regan, celebrated community champion and CEO of O\u2019Regan\u2019s Automotive Group, this extraordinary gift will have a direct and immediate impact on patients, families, and frontline healthcare teams across the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This investment will support urgent patient-care priorities, including the purchase of a new CT scanner for Dartmouth General Hospital, improved capacity and experience within the Emergency Department, and the DGH Social Work Patients Essential Fund, which provides critical support to vulnerable patients who need help with food, medication, transportation, clothing and other necessities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThousands of people are waiting for CT scans in Nova Scotia\u2019s Central Zone,\u201d said Dr. Carla Pittman, DGH Radiologist and DGH Foundation Board Member. \u201cThis gift will help DGH bring the first photon-counting CT scanner to Atlantic Canada. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;This new state-of-the-art technology allows for better resolution and less radiation exposure to patients, while reducing wait times and ensuring faster diagnosis and treatment. It is hard to overstate what this will mean for care for Nova Scotians.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>ADVERTISEMENT:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"alignnormal\">[metaslider id=&#8221;56530&#8243;]<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"alignnormal\">[metaslider id=&#8221;56179&#8243;]<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Dartmouth General Hospital saw more than 50,000 Emergency Department visits last year and regularly operates over capacity. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While planning continues for a future Emergency Department redevelopment, this gift will help improve patient flow, comfort and care delivery in the near term, supporting the hundreds of thousands of patients who will rely on the Emergency Department before a new facility is built.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis gift reflects both vision and compassion,\u201d said Stephen Harding, CEO of the Dartmouth General Hospital Foundation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cBy honouring Sean\u2019s legacy in this way, Lisa is strengthening care across the hospital\u2014from faster diagnostics to more supportive emergency and social care services\u2014ensuring patients are treated with dignity and urgency when they need it most.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sean O\u2019Regan was widely known as a generous leader and committed community builder who believed deeply in giving back. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In recognition of the O\u2019Regan family\u2019s philanthropy, Dartmouth General Hospital\u2019s West Wing will be named the Sean O\u2019Regan Wing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>ADVERTISEMENT:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"alignnormal\">[metaslider id=&#8221;56179&#8243;]<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>This marks the family\u2019s second major gift to the hospital. In 2018, the O\u2019Regans contributed $2 million in honour of longtime friend and mentor Neville Gilfoy, resulting in the naming of the Neville J. Gilfoy Wing<strong>.<\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Together, these gifts reflect a lasting commitment to Dartmouth General Hospital and to the patients and families it serves\u2014ensuring care that is timely, compassionate, and grounded in community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Additional Quotes<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cSean believed in community, in showing up for others, and in building systems that last beyond us.
