{"id":61282,"date":"2025-12-24T09:00:00","date_gmt":"2025-12-24T13:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thelaker.ca\/?p=61282"},"modified":"2025-12-24T09:00:00","modified_gmt":"2025-12-24T13:00:00","slug":"east-hants-minor-hockey-team-shows-true-spirit-of-christmas-giving-to-others","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/?p=61282","title":{"rendered":"East Hants minor hockey team shows true spirit of Christmas, giving to others"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div class=\"alignnormal\">[metaslider id=&#8221;56514&#8243;]<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>SHUBENACADIE:<\/strong> Members of the East Hants U-9 Development (Green) Penguins took time off the ice this holiday season to give back, delivering gift bags to residents at The Willows Manor in Shubenacadie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The initiative saw players and families come together to purchase and pack gifts for the approximately five residents living at the small seniors\u2019 facility located behind East Hants Pizza (next to the Shubenacadie ballfield.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For players Max Lidstone, Triton Toney, and Luke Lush, the message behind the visit was simple: kindness and giving back. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cTo be able to give back to the seniors here,\u201d Lidstone said. \u201cTo do things for them\u2026 it\u2019s that time of season, right? (Healey photo)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>Asked what went into the gift bags, the young Penguins explained they included snacks and essentials residents wouldn\u2019t have to purchase themselves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cChips. Chocolate. Tooth paste. Shampoo. Oranges,\u201d Luke Lush said. \u201cThings that they don\u2019t have to buy.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Team manager Nicole Lidstone said the project was made possible through the generosity of team families.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe put it together from the parents. It was all donated it to these seniors,\u201d she said, noting the effort allowed players to see firsthand how small acts can make a meaningful difference. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The visit provided a memorable lesson for the young athletes, that being part of a team extends beyond hockey, especially during the holiday season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Before leaving, there was one more thing the players did &#8211; each gave a big hug to the four residents that were in the lounge, which made them all smile.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"alignnormal\">[metaslider id=&#8221;56509&#8243;]<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>SHUBENACADIE: Members of the East Hants U-9 Development (Green) Penguins took time off the ice this holiday season to give back, delivering gift bags to residents at The Willows Manor in Shubenacadie.
