{"id":61689,"date":"2026-01-15T10:00:00","date_gmt":"2026-01-15T14:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thelaker.ca\/?p=61689"},"modified":"2026-01-15T10:00:00","modified_gmt":"2026-01-15T14:00:00","slug":"nsrab-approves-halifax-water-rate-increase-of-12-1-and-six-percent","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/?p=61689","title":{"rendered":"NSRAB approves Halifax Water rate increase of 12.1 and six percent"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div class=\"alignnormal\">[metaslider id=&#8221;56506&#8243;]<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>HALIFAX:<\/strong> Nova Scotia Regulatory Appeals Board (NSRAB)\u00a0finalized\u00a0its decision\u00a0regarding\u00a0Halifax Water\u2019s General Rate Application, which was fi<s>l<\/s>led in\u00a0May\u00a02025.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u202f\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As\u202fa result, the estimated average residential bill for all three services is expected to increase by 12.1% in January\u00a02026\u00a0and by 6% in April\u00a02026.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This will increase the average\u00a0household\u202fbill\u00a0by\u202f$9.28\u202fper\u00a0month\u202fstarting\u00a0in\u00a0January 2026 and\u00a0by an additional $5.11\u202fper\u00a0month\u202fstarting\u00a0in\u00a0April of\u00a02026.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u202fHalifax\u202fWater\u2019s request was driven by increased inflation, rising interest rates, depleted reserve funds, aging\u202finfrastructure,\u00a0growth\u00a0and increasing regulatory requirements.\u00a0\u202f\u00a0T<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>ADVERTISEMENT:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"alignnormal\">[metaslider id=&#8221;56530&#8243;]<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"alignnormal\">[metaslider id=&#8221;56179&#8243;]<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>This will be the first increase in\u202fHalifax Water\u202frates since\u202fApril 2023.\u202f\u202f\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00a0\u201cToday\u2019s decision provides the funding we need to\u00a0mitigate\u00a0further deficits and continue making the strategic investments required to support our customers and a rapidly growing municipality,&#8221;
