{"id":62161,"date":"2026-02-06T08:00:00","date_gmt":"2026-02-06T12:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thelaker.ca\/?p=62161"},"modified":"2026-02-06T08:00:00","modified_gmt":"2026-02-06T12:00:00","slug":"n-s-announces-new-program-to-support-local-beef","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/?p=62161","title":{"rendered":"N.S. announces new program to support local beef"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div class=\"alignnormal\">[metaslider id=&#8221;56501&#8243;]<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>HALIFAX: <\/strong>New funding for Nova Scotia cattle producers and processors will increase local beef processing and help producers manage their production costs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Agriculture Minister Greg Morrow announced the support February 5, during meetings with cattle producers in Truro.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe want to make sure producers have the support for the facilities, equipment and training they need to raise and process their cattle here at home and to make beef an affordable first choice for Nova Scotia consumers,\u201d said Minister Morrow. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThese programs respond directly to what we\u2019ve heard from industry, so they can produce more high-quality local beef.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>ADVERTISEMENT:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"alignnormal\">[metaslider id=&#8221;56514&#8243;]<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"alignnormal\">[metaslider id=&#8221;56530&#8243;]<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>New programs under the Nova Scotia Beef Initiative include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8211; Nova Scotia Beef Finishing Equipment Support Program <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2013 funding for tools and equipment that help producers give their cattle the optimal rations for converting feed into weight gain as they prepare the cattle for market; the upgrades will help producers manage rising costs due to inflation and climate change and should increase the supply of local beef in the province<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8211; Nova Scotia Beef Processing Program \u2013 funding for new and current abattoir owners for infrastructure and equipment to increase beef processing, including major upgrades to existing operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The programs will be administered by Perennia.<br><br><strong>Quotes:<br><\/strong>\u201cBeef is a highly nutrient dense food, providing a concentrated source of essential nutrients which is important for the health and well-being of all Nova Scotians.
