MAITLAND:<\/strong> The Lawrence House Museum in Maitland is one of 12 that are set to be closed as part of cuts by the province.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The East Hants Historical Society said that each of these locations represents a unique thread in the tapestry of our provincial history\u2014from the industrial ingenuity of the mills to the domestic lives preserved within the historic homes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe stand with the staff, volunteers, and communities who have championed these sites,\u201d the society said in a Facebook post.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The affected landmarks include (not all 12 are listed):<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cossit House (Sydney)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

McCulloch House (Pictou)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Perkins House (Liverpool)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ross-Thomson House (Shelburne)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Shand House (Windsor)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Barrington Woolen Mill (Barrington)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Wile Carding Mill (Bridgewater)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

North Hills Museum (Granville Ferry)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Historical Society said the these sites serve as the physical keepers of our collective memory, and their absence leaves a significant void in our cultural landscape.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe encourage all Nova Scotians to support your local museums, and let your representatives at all levels of government know how important heritage is to you,\u201d the post continued.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The society said the province\u2019s decision to close these facilities marks a concerning trend in the heritage sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe are disappointed by the closure of various museums throughout the province,\u201d said the society.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At East Hants council on Wednesday night, Councillor Keith Rhyno said he was trying to gather more info and get answers on the museum\u2019s closure and the process going forward.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He said he was awaiting a reply from Municipal Affairs Minister and Hants East MLA John A. MacDonald.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
