{"id":62781,"date":"2026-03-03T10:00:00","date_gmt":"2026-03-03T14:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thelaker.ca\/?p=62781"},"modified":"2026-03-03T10:00:00","modified_gmt":"2026-03-03T14:00:00","slug":"lockview-student-council-serving-up-community-spirit-at-chili-cookoff","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/?p=62781","title":{"rendered":"Lockview student council serving up community spirit at Chili Cookoff"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div class=\"alignnormal\">[metaslider id=&#8221;56530&#8243;]<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>FALL RIVER: <\/strong>The heat will be on in the cafetorium at Lockview High School later this month as student council members once again host their popular Chili Cookoff.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The community event takes place March 26 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the school cafetorium and promises an evening filled with friendly competition, tasty food, and fundraising for a great cause.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Student council member Brynn MacDonald said the motivation behind bringing the cookoff back is simple.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe really want to do more community events to involve the whole community into Lockview and the high school, and us as a student council would really just love to give back to the community and do what we can,\u201d said MacDonald.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAnd this is a great event that brings everyone together. And of course, food. It brings people together.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>ADVERTISEMENT:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"alignnormal\">[metaslider id=&#8221;56179&#8243;]<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"alignnormal\">[metaslider id=&#8221;56501&#8243;]<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Organizers are hoping to expand the competition this year by attracting even more chili-makers from across Fall River and surrounding areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re going to hopefully have more contestants who bring their chili,\u201d MacDonald said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cPeople who come to the cookoff can each be a judge and decide who has the best chili in Fall River.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Those interested in entering their homemade chili can contact Mr. Goora or Miss Tasker at the school.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mr. Goora can be reached at: pgoora@hrce.ca<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Miss Tasker can be reached at: jtasker@hrce.ca<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Contestants are encouraged to provide their recipes, including ingredient lists, for attendees to view.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tickets are expected to range between $10 and $15, similar to last year\u2019s pricing, and will be available soon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>MacDonald said organizers are also looking at selling tickets through local legions\/halls to help boost community participation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>ADVERTISEMENT:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"alignnormal\">[metaslider id=&#8221;56526&#8243;]<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"alignnormal\">[metaslider id=&#8221;56506&#8243;]<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Beyond bragging rights for best chili, the event also serves as a fundraiser. Proceeds will support the school\u2019s Relay for Life efforts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cLast year we had to purchase all the equipment, but this year we already have all the equipment so more money can go towards the cause,\u201d said MacDonald.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This year\u2019s Relay for Life is tentatively planned for late May or early June and will mark an exciting milestone, as students hope to hold it on the school\u2019s brand-new turf field.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>MacDonald said student council members are eager to welcome the community back for another memorable night.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt will be a great time, and we\u2019re excited to see everyone there,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"alignnormal\">[metaslider id=&#8221;56376&#8243;]<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"alignnormal\">[metaslider id=&#8221;56191&#8243;]<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>FALL RIVER: The heat will be on in the cafetorium at Lockview High School later this month as student council members once again host their popular Chili Cookoff.
