{"id":63357,"date":"2026-03-26T18:00:00","date_gmt":"2026-03-26T21:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thelaker.ca\/?p=63357"},"modified":"2026-03-26T18:00:00","modified_gmt":"2026-03-26T21:00:00","slug":"pm-carney-imp-aerospace-nova-scotia-visit-major-defence-investments-atlantic-canada","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/?p=63357","title":{"rendered":"PHOTOS: PM Carney tours IMP Aerospace during Nova Scotia visit; announces major defence investments in Atlantic Canada"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div class=\"alignnormal\">[metaslider id=&#8221;56501&#8243;]<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>ENFIELD:<\/strong> The Prime Minister paid a visit to one of the worlds leading Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul service location.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mark Carney, who was joined by Kings Hants MP Kody Blois, Central Nova MP and Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada and Minister responsible for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency Sean Fraser, among others, and IMP Aerospace Officials for a quick tour on Thursday afternoon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The visit followed an announcement by the Prime Minister in Halifax that Canada had achieved the 2 per cent defence expenditure target from NATO and would be investing more than\u00a0$3\u00a0billion in infrastructure and defence-related investments across Atlantic Canada.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At IMP Aerospace, Carney and others got to see the employees hard at work on the famed Snowbirds, plus other aircraft that were located in the hangar. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He also had the opportunity to speak with some of the employees about the work they were doing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>(A summary of the announcement in Halifax follows the IMP tour photos)<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/IMG_0727-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-63365\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">PM Carney and Minister Sean Fraser watch as an employee shows them what he is working on. (Healey photo)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p><strong>ADVERTISEMENT:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"alignnormal\">[metaslider id=&#8221;56509&#8243;]<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"alignnormal\">[metaslider id=&#8221;56530&#8243;]<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Earlier on Thursday in Halifax, Carney announced Canada had achieved the NATO 2% defence spending target this year. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For the past 10 months, a release said that Canada has have moved at unprecedented speed and scale \u2013 working across over a dozen federal departments and agencies to spend more than $63\u00a0billion<strong>,<\/strong> the largest year-over-year increase to Canada\u2019s defence spending in generations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As a result of that work,\u00a0the country has achieved the 2% defence expenditure target \u2013 half a decade ahead of the previous government\u2019s schedule. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The 2% target is a foundation for an even stronger, more independent, more secure country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Carney announced March 26\u00a0more than\u00a0$3\u00a0billion in infrastructure and defence-related investments across Atlantic Canada.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In Nova Scotia, we are making major, targeted investments to modernise critical infrastructure, build new facilities to support the next generation of naval and air fleets, and expand training and operational capacity. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>$1.2\u00a0billion to modernize critical power and municipal service infrastructure at CFB Halifax Dockyard and Stadacona\u00a0<\/strong>\u2013 upgrading essential services and facilities to ensure the base has sufficient power and utilities to support new capabilities and future naval operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>$648\u00a0million to construct two new aviation support facilities at 14 Wing Greenwood\u00a0<\/strong>\u2013 supporting the Royal Canadian Air Force\u2019s CP-8A Poseidon fleet and CQ-9B Guardian with modern hangars, maintenance, and operational infrastructure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>More than $180\u00a0million to build the Combatant Training and Integration Centre\u00a0<\/strong>\u2013 supporting training, operations, and integration for the Royal Canadian Navy\u2019s future river-class destroyers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>$82.5\u00a0million to acquire Halifax Gate\u00a0<\/strong>\u2013a 475-acre waterfront industrial site that will support current and future Royal Canadian Navy operations, including the movement of personnel, ships, and supplies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>$60\u00a0million for a new, 140-unit apartment complex for Canadian Armed Forces members<\/strong>,<strong> near 12 Wing Shearwater\u00a0<\/strong>\u2013 because every member of our Armed Forces deserves a safe, high-quality place to call home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In New Brunswick, the feds are investing <strong>more than $1\u00a0billion in the CFB Gagetown Range and Training Area\u00a0<\/strong>\u2013 introducing new ground-based air defence systems and ensuring our soldiers train on infrastructure built to last the next century. Canada is also investing <strong>$20.2\u00a0million to upgrade transition centres<\/strong> at CFB Gagetown, improving support for Canadian Armed Forces members as they transition to civilian life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This $3&nbsp;billion package further builds on Canada\u2019s mission to rebuild, rearm, and reinvest in the Canadian Armed Forces. That strategy rests on four pillars: investing in the foundations of defence \u2013 the women and men who serve, and the equipment and the infrastructure they use; expanding and enhancing our military capabilities; strengthening Canada\u2019s defence industry; and diversifying Canada\u2019s defence partnerships.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"alignnormal\">[metaslider id=&#8221;56191&#8243;]<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>ENFIELD: The Prime Minister paid a visit to one of the worlds leading Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul service location.
