Premiums can vary widely depending on the vehicle\u2019s value, repair costs, theft risk and location, so anyone buying their first EV should compare quotes early and review coverage carefully.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The&nbsp;Rates.ca report&nbsp;highlights several key trends:&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Interest is rebounding after last year\u2019s slump:&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>According to Rates.ca quoter\u00a0data,\u00a0EV\u00a0quotes\u00a0increased 33% year over year in February and climbed another seven percentage points to 40% in March\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>According to\u00a0a Leger survey commissioned by Rates.ca,\u00a030% of Canadians report some level of interest in buying an EV\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>17%\u00a0of those\u00a0interested in\u00a0buying an EV\u00a0say they would\u00a0consider\u00a0purchasing\u00a0one within the next five years\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>13%\u00a0of those\u00a0interested in buying an EV\u00a0say they are open to the idea but not in the near term, while 51%\u00a0of survey respondents\u00a0report they are not interested in\u00a0purchasing\u00a0an EV\u00a0 <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>ADVERTISEMENT:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"alignnormal\">[metaslider id=&#8221;56509&#8243;]<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Interest is concentrated among specific groups:&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>According to the survey, younger adults aged 18 to 34, men, urban and suburban residents, and households earning over $60,000 are more likely to consider\u00a0purchasing\u00a0an EV\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The survey shows rural and lower-income Canadians\u00a0remain\u00a0significantly less likely to consider\u00a0purchasing\u00a0an EV, underscoring\u00a0potential\u00a0affordability and infrastructure gaps\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Affordability&nbsp;remains&nbsp;the&nbsp;top&nbsp;concern:&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>According to the survey,\u00a059% of\u00a0those\u00a0interested or unsure\u00a0of\u00a0purchasing\u00a0an EV\u00a0cite the purchase price as their primary concern\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>54%\u00a0of respondents\u00a0that are interested or unsure of\u00a0purchasing\u00a0an EV\u00a0worry about driving range and charging access\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>45%\u00a0of respondents that are interested or unsure of\u00a0purchasing\u00a0an\u00a0EV\u00a0are\u00a0concerned about repair and maintenance costs\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>23%\u00a0of respondents that are interested or unsure of\u00a0purchasing\u00a0an EV\u00a0cite insurance costs as a factor in their decision\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>ADVERTISEMENT:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"alignnormal\">[metaslider id=&#8221;56179&#8243;]<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Lower-cost imports could shift the market:&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>According to the survey,\u00a056% of Canadians who are interested or unsure\u00a0of\u00a0purchasing\u00a0an EV\u00a0say they would consider a Chinese-built EV\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>31%\u00a0of those that\u00a0would consider a Chinese-built EV\u00a0cite affordability as the primary motivator for considering those models\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Ivans adds that insurance plays&nbsp;an important role&nbsp;in the total cost calculation. \u201cWhat the vehicle is worth and how expensive it is to repair are two of the biggest factors in how premiums are set.
