{"id":9309,"date":"2018-12-21T10:58:21","date_gmt":"2018-12-21T14:58:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thelaker.ca\/?p=9309"},"modified":"2018-12-21T10:58:21","modified_gmt":"2018-12-21T14:58:21","slug":"winter-advice-to-help-your-local-firefighters","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/?p=9309","title":{"rendered":"Winter advice to help your local firefighters"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"StoryBody\" class=\"rtEditor\" title=\"(double-click to edit)\" data-role=\"none\">\n<p><strong>FALL RIVER: <\/strong>With winter weather upon us,the local volunteer firefighters have some advice for residents on ways they can help them find them quickly when seconds count.<\/p>\n<p>Station 45 volunteer Station Chief Nick Yeomans said there are three main things that people they protect can do to make their jobs easier.<\/p>\n<p>The first is around the civic numbers on your home or property.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201d<\/strong>Civic number signs for your home or property are crucial for first responders when we\u2019re called to come help you or your family,\u201d said Yeomans. \u201cWhen approaching your property from the road, can you clearly see your civic number? If not, then move it to a clearly visible location.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>If you don\u2019t have one, they can be purchased through the Race Trac Fuels location on Hwy 2 in Fall River.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith the snowy weather here, also remember to keep them clear of snow, snow banks and branches that might be hanging low,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>With the snow starting, remember to keep walkways to side and back doors clear.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYour front door might not be the easiest or quickest escape route in the event of an emergency,\u201d said Yeomans. \u201cKeep snow cleared away from basement windows and any type of exhaust vents.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Yeomans also had advice for residents who have new fire hydrants located near them from the water project installation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThose who now have new fire hydrants located close to their properties on Fall River Road or Hwy. 2, please help us keep them clear of snow,\u201d he said. \u201cEvery bit of time matters when an emergency is happening so avoiding a delay trying to dig around a hydrant is extremely helpful.
