{"id":9666,"date":"2019-02-14T17:15:58","date_gmt":"2019-02-14T21:15:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thelaker.ca\/?p=9666"},"modified":"2019-02-14T17:15:58","modified_gmt":"2019-02-14T21:15:58","slug":"taps-turned-on-at-alj","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/?p=9666","title":{"rendered":"Taps turned on at ALJ"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"StoryBody\" class=\"rtEditor\" title=\"(double-click to edit)\" data-role=\"none\">\n<p><strong>FALL RIVER:<\/strong> The flow of refreshing, tasty water said it all.<\/p>\n<p>Councillor Steve Streatch, along with Halifax Water\u2019s James Campbell, visited Ash Lee Jefferson School on Feb. 11 for the first official sip by the councillor of newly installed city water, which began being utilized recently by the students.<\/p>\n<p>Streatch had help from a young student who pushed on the button for the water to come out as he filled up his water bottle.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_9669\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-9669\" style=\"width: 450px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-9669 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/038-e1550167933632.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"450\" height=\"675\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-9669\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Steve Streatch takes a sip of the water. (Healey photo)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cIt tastes great,\u201d said Streatch to some giggles from the kids as a drop of water fell from his chin.<\/p>\n<p>Ash Le is one of three schools who have been connected to city water as part of the $12 million Fall River water project. Lockview High and Georges P. Vanier Junior High are in the connection stages.<\/p>\n<p>ALJ Principal Lynn Mills was thrilled to have the school hooked up to city water. It also means less work for the school in testing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think it\u2019s just more consistent because we have less of the water testing and more of the good, fresh water coming to us everyday without any interruption,\u201d said Mills. \u201cThere wasn\u2019t any disruption to school operations.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s good water.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>When asked about talk that there have been efficiency\u2019s found that could make for savings from the project for residents, Campbell would not confirm or deny that.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRight now we\u2019re at $11.8 million, but certainly if efficiency\u2019s are found that will go back to the residents in a reduced Local Improvement Charge,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_9667\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-9667\" style=\"width: 800px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-9667 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/004-e1550167856149.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"533\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-9667\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Several students from Ash Lee Jefferson School pose with their free Halifax Water bottles before they try out the city water at their tap in the school.
