{"id":9676,"date":"2019-02-14T14:33:19","date_gmt":"2019-02-14T18:33:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thelaker.ca\/?p=9676"},"modified":"2019-02-14T14:33:19","modified_gmt":"2019-02-14T18:33:19","slug":"wellingtons-joycey-named-finalist-for-film-scholarship","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/?p=9676","title":{"rendered":"Wellington\u2019s Joycey named finalist for film scholarship"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"StoryBody\" class=\"rtEditor\" title=\"(double-click to edit)\" data-role=\"none\">\n<p><strong>WELLINGTON: <\/strong>A film student from Wellington who\u2019s attending Dalhousie University is in the running to earn a full scholarship to a prestigious Vancouver film school, thanks to filmmaker Kevin Smith.<\/p>\n<p>Marc Joycey found out recently about being named a finalist.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was getting on the bus and I got a phone call from the executive producer of Vancouver Film School telling me that I was one of the four candidates selected by Kevin Smith to receive the scholarship,\u201d he told NEWS 95.7\u2019s The Sheldon MacLeod Show. \u201cIt\u2019s kind of thrown my world completely upside-down.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The other three finalists are from Brazil, the United States, and South Africa.<\/p>\n<p>All of the finalists qualify for a partial scholarship, with one getting a full-ride to the VFS acting for film and television program this year.<\/p>\n<p>Joycey is currently in his final semester at Dal, studying political science. He said he\u2019s always wanted to be an actor.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI thought, \u2018maybe I\u2019ll go be a lawyer because that\u2019s a safe avenue,\u2019 but the more time I spent in university, the more I realized I didn\u2019t want to be a lawyer,\u201d he explained. \u201cIn fact what I wanted ultimately, all this time, was to be a lawyer on television.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The scholarship received around 1,000 applicants from around the world and the four finalists were personally selected by Smith.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen I found out about Vancouver Film School and the scholarship, it really has changed my world view on what I want to do upon graduation,\u201d said Joycey.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>WELLINGTON: A film student from Wellington who\u2019s attending Dalhousie University is in the running to earn a full scholarship to a prestigious Vancouver film school, thanks to filmmaker Kevin Smith.
