{"id":9865,"date":"2019-03-11T23:28:42","date_gmt":"2019-03-12T02:28:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thelaker.ca\/?p=9865"},"modified":"2019-03-11T23:28:42","modified_gmt":"2019-03-12T02:28:42","slug":"area-rate-report-due-back-soon-streatch","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staging-z.thelaker.ca\/?p=9865","title":{"rendered":"Area rate report due back soon: Streatch"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"StoryBody\" class=\"rtEditor\" title=\"(double-click to edit)\" data-role=\"none\">\n<p><strong>WINDSOR JUNCTION:<\/strong> An HRM staff report on area rates that community groups across the municipality utilize, including the LWF Ratepayers Association (LWFRA), is expected back before regional council in the not-too-distant future.<\/p>\n<p>The area rate report will impact how facilities like the Windsor Junction Community Centre (WJCC) are funded. The LWF Ratepayers have an area rate which is collected by HRM and given to the LWFRA to fund the activities at the WJCC.<\/p>\n<p>Steve Streatch said the only thing that has changed is the surplus the LWFRA collected above and beyond what the WJCC required.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCouncil indicated that was not sustainable, and staff are currently working on a report to firm those details up,\u201d he said. \u201cI think when that comes back the community will have to reflect on what\u2019s in that report.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He said he would await the report before commenting further.<\/p>\n<p>WJCC chairwoman Colleen Menard said h<span class=\"_mh6 _wsc\"><span class=\"_3oh- _58nk\">aving a secure funding source is a key piece of information our the WJCC board needs when planning their operations programming. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"_mh6 _wsc\"><span class=\"_3oh- _58nk\">\u201cThe WJCC Board is available to hear what the councillor has to say, however, to date, we have not been consulted in any way by the Councillor or HRM staff on area rate changes, or changes to our structure,\u201d she said.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>WINDSOR JUNCTION: An HRM staff report on area rates that community groups across the municipality utilize, including the LWF Ratepayers Association (LWFRA), is expected back before regional council in the not-too-distant future.
