LANTZ: The Lantz Volunteer Fire Department has taken home the Noble Cup for 2020, besting their counterparts with Elmsdale Fire by donating more blood during the 2020 Plasma Challenge.

For this event, which covered all of 2020, participating Lantz and Elmsdale Department members and their significant others registered with the Canadian Blood Services to donate plasma, platelets, or whole blood. These two Fire Departments are just two of many organizations which have registered in the Partners for Life program run by the Canadian Blood Services for the past year.

The Noble Cup is an award that was created to honour the long-time service of Malcolm “Mac” Noble to the community of Elmsdale through his work as a member of and his commitment as Chief of the Elmsdale Fire Department.

The Cup is up for grabs during various “friendly” competitions between the Fire Departments of Elmsdale and Lantz, which celebrates its 50th year protecting the community.

Past events where the two departments have gone head-to-head are softball, bubble soccer and frisbee football. With this being the season of COVID-19, these types of athletic events have not happened.

By year end the Lantz Volunteer Fire Department team had managed to make a sufficient number of donations to be declared by the Canadian Blood Services as the winner of this competition.
