HALIFAX: The Halifax Regional Municipality is inviting residents to apply for the Youth Poet Laureate Program.
The program offers young poets (aged 14 to 18) an opportunity to develop their writing skills, receive mentorship and engage with others on issues that resonate within the municipality.
The Youth Poet Laureate’s term will be from January to December 2026.
The primary focus of the Youth Poet Laureate is to instill a long-lasting love of the literary arts for residents.

Specifically, they will be expected to create new pieces of work, present at select Regional Council meetings and advocate for poetry, language, arts and young writers through various speaking events.
This year, the Laureate will also participate in AfterWords Literary Festival’s Youth Mentorship Program and be paired with an experienced writer to support their development.
The Laureate will also receive an honorarium of $1,000 for their service.
