Lower Sackville man dies after vehicle crashes into Lake Thomas

FALL RIVER: An 80-year-old man from Lower Sackville has died following a single-vehicle collision on Hwy 102 at Exit 5 on Oct. 2.

RCMP say that at approximately 3 p.m. RCMP officers, EHS and fire services from Station 45 Fall River and Station 41 Waverley responded to a report of a single-vehicle crash on Hwy. 102 at Exit 5. 

“Officers learned a Jeep Compass was travelling southbound on Hwy. 102 when it went off the road, over the guardrail, and into Lake Thomas,” police said in a release.

Witnesses made efforts to assist the driver, and lone occupant, of the Compass which was submerged.

 Fire services extracted the driver, an 80-year-old man of Lower Sackville, who was located deceased. 

An RCMP collision reconstructionist attended the scene along with the RCMP Underwater Recovery Team, to assist with the ongoing investigation. 

The on-ramp to Hwy. 102 southbound at Fall River was closed for several hours but has since reopened.
